The Open Path Board of Directors is a diverse group of professionals and laypeople who have both personal and professional experience with infertility, adoption and the choice to be childfree. Jed Somit, JD
Attorney at Law
Jed is an infertility survivor, now with three grown children through adoption. Professionally an attorney with a general civil practice, he is also knows as an adoption law resource and a proponent of openness in adoption and Artificial Reproductive Technology births.

Treasurer
Greg Schwieder, CPA
Greg is a CPA, with over fourteen years of experience in the financial services industry. He began is accounting career with the public accounting firms of Coopers & Lybrand and Ernst & Young. In 1998, Greg left Ernst & Young to become the Chief Financial Officer for Marin Capital Partners, a multi-billion dollar hedge fund. When Marin Capital closed in 2005, Greg dedicated more of his efforts towards non-profit organizations. In addition to Resolve, he is also the Treasurer for another local non-profit business that assists with building stronger families. Greg and his wife Vicki are currently exploring adoption and foster adoption opportunities.

Christopher W. Covin, MD
Pediatrician, Kaiser Permanente
Chris and his partner became parents to their son through foster-adoption. A pediatrician in the East Bay, he enjoys providing healthcare to the children of other gay and lesbian parents. In addition he is interested in the effects of prenatal drug exposure.

Jennifer Mullan Donery
Account Manager, KGO Radio News Talk 810 AM
Jen has 13 years experience in the radio industry – radio sales, marketing, promotions, fundraising, administrative support and voiceover. She has a B.A. degree from San Francisco State University and is a San Francisco native. Jen and her husband, Dave, became parents to their daughter, Sinéad, through domestic, open adoption in 2005. They are in the process of growing their family further and are grateful to Open Path for providing support and guidance along the way.

Karen Purcell, MD, PhD, FACOG
Medical Director at Fertility Physicians of Northern California
Karen is one of a team of fertility specialists helping people become parents with the latest medical treatment and complementary Mind-Body Programs which help ease the stress of infertility. She earned her M.D. and Ph.D. at Yale University, focusing on embryo development. Karen then completed her training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of California, Los Angeles and completed her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of California, San Francisco.

Ellen Roseman, BA
Founder of Cooperative Adoption Consulting
Ellen has been working in open adoption as a facilitator in California since 1980. She has published numerous articles on open adoption and is a popular speaker at adoption related workshops, organizations and conferences across the United States. Ellen is a mother of three daughters two who were adopted at birth. Ellen worked to open up her daughter’s adoptions so that they would get to know their birth families.

Caylie is a Licensed Acupuncturist whose simple aim is to find a solution to your fertility obstacles. She knows that sounds more effortless than it is. As such, she provides comprehensive, time tested and research-based care. Caylie comes from a long line of chocolatiers, and her own mixing bowl contains a foundation in Chinese and western medicine and the desire to effectively mingle the two to support you throughout your treatment process.

Sae H. Sohn, MD
UCSF Center for Reproductive Health
Sae is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist who has served the Bay Area patient for more than ten years. He has just joined UCSF, Center for Reproductive Health group in San Francisco. He will practice mainly out of his Marin office as a satellite of UCSF’s fertility group. Dr. Sohn has a particular interest in educating and helping couples understand treatment options and in particular understanding the whys and why not of these treatment options.
